Junior Gym Membership and Rules for Children

How old do you have to be to go to the gym?

Each adult member can apply, at Village gym for a maximum of three junior memberships, for children up to & including 13 years of age

At the age of 14 years, junior members may move to an upgraded 14-15 years’ membership and use all the facilities (subject to the terms and conditions of membership, the terms and conditions of use and the completion of a General Health Questionnaire prior to using the gym and/or classes). A full Fitness Orientation must take place prior to joining this upgraded category.

Children must be supervised at all times as follows:

-All children aged 13 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian, aged 18 or over. Those aged 14 and 15 years old must have a parent or guardian in the club at the same time at which they are in attendance.


-There must be at least one parent or guardian in attendance for every two children between the ages of 5 and 8 years.


-There must be at least one parent or guardian in attendance for every child under the age of 5 years.


-Children, including junior members, must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a parent or guardian, unless attending supervised junior activities.

Children remain the responsibility of their parent or guardian at all times while on Village premises and their parent or guardian agrees to ensure that each child adheres to the applicable terms, conditions, rules and regulations.

No child under the age of 16 years is allowed in the pool area unattended (excluding those on a 14-15 year old membership as mentioned previously).

Children’s swimming times apply. Please see the specific Village Gym club page on this website or contact the Leisure Club directly for confirmation of these times.

Children may not use whirlpool spa, steam room or sauna.

What age can kids visit the gym on their own?

Children must be 16 years old or over to use the Gym alone. Those aged 14-15 years may use the gym providing their parent / guardian is an active paying member and in the club with them, they are on a 14 - 15 year membership and they have completed a Fitness Orientation.

Children may not use the fitness and aerobics Studios (except during designated, supervised sessions)

Children over the age of 8 years should use their own sex changing rooms.
