Aqua aerobics is a fantastic option for anyone seeking a fun, low-impact workout that’s easy on the joints while still being effective.
It’s especially great for beginners who want a gentle way to get moving, seniors looking to enhance their mobility and maintain strength, and those dealing with joint pain or injuries who require a supportive exercise choice.
Even fitness enthusiasts can find value in aqua aerobics by introducing variety and challenging their muscles in a fresh way.
Aiming to lose weight? Exercising in water provides resistance that challenges both your muscles and heart, allowing you to burn calories effectively while minimising stress on your joints.
Consistent participation in aqua aerobics can enhance your metabolism, tone your muscles, and boost your endurance—all of which aid in weight loss.
Typically, you can burn around 400 to 500 calories per hour* in an aqua aerobics class, making it an enjoyable and efficient way to lose weight while having a refreshing workout.
*According to the Aquatic Exercise Association.

New to our aqua aerobics class?
No problem. Let your instructor know you're a beginner, and they'll ensure they modify any exercises you may find challenging during your first class.
Feel free to make our class work for you. If you begin to feel tired quickly, push yourself as far as you're able then take regular breaks.
Our aqua aerobics class is much easier on the joints than a studio-based class.
The water's buoyancy supports your body weight, reducing stress on the joints.
So it's a great class for senior fitness lovers who want to enjoy a full body workout and improve cardiovascular fitness, balance and range of motion.
Our more senior Reading members also love a well-earned cuppa together tea afterwards!

Is aqua aerobics good for losing weight?
Yes, aqua aerobics burns calories while being gentle on the joints. The resistance of water helps tone muscles, making it effective for weight loss when combined with healthy eating.
Is aqua aerobics better than swimming?
Aqua aerobics offers different benefits to swimming. While swimming burns more calories and improves stamina, aqua aerobics is easier on joints, offers group motivation, and works strength and cardio together.
How many times a week should I do aqua aerobics?
2–3 sessions per week is ideal for fitness and weight loss. It’s safe enough to do more often if you enjoy it, as it’s low-impact.
What burns more calories, swimming or aqua aerobics?
Swimming generally burns more calories per hour because it uses continuous, full-body effort. Aqua aerobics burns slightly less but still provides a great workout with lower impact.
