Fitness to Boost Your Mental Health

In a world filled with chaos, it's easy to lose sight of our own well-being amidst the demands of daily life. However, even in the busiest of schedules, it's crucial to carve out time for self-care. Here are some beneficial activities you can incorporate into your routine:

Outdoor exercise:

Whether you work from home, in an office, or elsewhere, taking a stroll during your lunch break can provide a much-needed mental reset. The fresh air and vitamin D boost offer an opportunity to relax and recharge before tackling the rest of the day. Some of our clubs have Air - the outdoor fitness bootcamp, where you can work your full body workout whilst soaking up the sun and refreshing outside.

Getting those steps in:

As summer approaches and the days lengthen, consider setting a goal to walk 10,000 steps a day but if you don’t have enough time for that, doing it at least once a week is still an achievement. You could use our cutting edge SkillMills, if you can’t do the exercise outside, do it in our gym. With the built in technology and entertainment, you can complete your steps whilst watching your favourite TV shows and catching up on shows you have missed- that is two jobs done at once!

Attending a fitness class:

Devoting just 30 minutes to a fitness class can make a significant difference in your mental health. At Village, we offer a diverse range of classes, including our own Village Advance sessions and the latest Les Mills classes. Fitness classes not only keep you accountable in a supportive group environment but also provide opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.

Using a sauna:

Saunas are a fantastic way to unwind and de-stress after a hectic day. Beyond relaxation, sauna sessions replicate the benefits of a cardiovascular workout, offering therapeutic effects for both body and mind. They also provide opportunities for social activity, particularly valuable for those working from home who don’t have as much face-to-face interactions. Whether you prefer a solo sauna session or a post-swim relaxation, we've got you covered at Village.

Swimming:

Swimming is a way to get the body moving but also clearing your mind. It is low impact, easy on the joints and a  great full body workout! Whilst swimming you are able to collect your thoughts, no matter how big or small and also make plans for your future. You could even join in our aqua aerobics class where you push your body to its limits whilst being in the water.

Going to the gym with a friend/work colleague:

Going to the gym is a huge benefit to your mental health, going with a friend or work colleague can help too! If you’re new to the gym, going with someone can build up your confidence and help you learn. If you are a long time gym goer, going with somebody can create a different dynamic to your workouts, offering motivation, spotting assistance, and an opportunity for meaningful conversation during exercise.
