Clubs Keeping COVID At Bay

The UK's health clubs are continuing to keep COVID at bay, according to the latest figures released by industry body, UKActive.

After we, and our fellow fitness clubs re-opened our doors after lockdown, Brits racked up 22 million visits to gyms across the country within two months. Interestingly,  the number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 visits came in at 0.34, with no community transmission occurring.

Huw Edwards, CEO of UKActive, says the data shows that protocols for monitoring and reporting in the sector are helping to control the virus and ensure the safety of members.

These findings support a growing evidence base from across the globe showing that COVID-19 has a low prevalence in the gym environment.

An analysis of 49.4 million member check-ins within 2,873 gyms in the US over three months studied “visit-to-virus” ratio data in health and fitness clubs. It showed that, out of the nearly 50 million visits, only 0.0023 per cent had tested positive for COVID-19 – a result deemed statistically irrelevant.

“These findings show that the number of people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 visiting gyms remains extremely low, which is evidence of the huge efforts being made by gyms to ensure people do not visit if they might have the virus," Edwards said.

The Village Gym team are firm believers in fitness for the fight against infection. So we've stepped our game up with the investment of cutting-edge safety measures and slick procedures to ensure your workout space is safe.

Social Distance.
We have redesigned the gym floor, spacing out cardio and resistance equipment to provide you with effective and safe workout areas. Where possible we are also introducing one-way routes.

Protective Screens.
We have added perspex protective screens in between cardio equipment to make working out even safer!

We continue to deliver amazing classes in our studios, though class capacities have been reduced and social distancing markers are in place. Extra time is being allowed between classes so we can fully clean the studios ahead of the next class.

Booking system.
Our new booking system allows you to book in a swim or your favourite fitness class. Scottish clubs also have a booking system for members keen to hit the gym.

Top-grade cleaning, more often.
Our team use cleaning products that are proven to kill viruses like COVID-19 in all areas, with particular attention being paid to bikes, weights, and all high-touch surfaces after every class.

We have invested in state-of-the-art, new cleaning equipment that uses Electrostatic Technology. This revolutionary cleaning system provides an even distribution of cleaning products and total disinfectant of every surface it coats.

Handy products when you need them.
Alcohol gel, antibacterial soap, blue roll, antibacterial spray and wipes are readily available throughout the club.

A breath of fresh air.
In each of our high intensity indoor cycling Studios we have invested in a clean air solution called 'Aera Max IV' to ensure the steady flow of clean air. This chemical-free solution uses activated carbon filters that are proven and certified to absorb 99.9% of airborne viruses and contaminants within just 35 minutes of operation.

As we, and other health clubs across the country continue to maintain a high level of safety for members, you can rest assured that it seems to be working.

“The proactive protocols put in place by gyms and leisure facilities to prevent people with the virus from visiting them are working, alongside the highest standards of cleanliness and safety to reduce the risk."

“Our sector is helping to get the nation fitter and better prepared to fight the virus as we enter the autumn, providing an essential health service to the UK.

“The fitness and leisure sector has a vital role to play in fighting this health crisis, and its role will become even more important over the coming weeks and months."
